Sylvia Moreno's Oct. 24 Metro article, "Poverty Rate Grows Amid an Economic Boom," demonstrated that the economic revitalization strategy of the Anthony Williams administration strategy was not intended to benefit the District's low-income communities. Mayor Adrian M. Fenty (D) has inherited a city split by a deep economic divide. In several neighborhoods these two divergent groups, or "two economies," as the article put it, are forced to live with each other, resulting in the haves unwittingly flaunting their wealth in front of the have-nots and in further divisiveness.f
