Regarding Dana Milbank’s Jan. 22 op-ed, “With malice toward some”:

In his inaugural address, President Trump falsely claimed that U.S. students are “deprived of all knowledge.” My children, who study in Montgomery County’s public schools, have some knowledge, and they are learning more every day. My son Jonah, a sophomore at Montgomery Blair High School, has enough knowledge of American literature and current events to astutely recognize specific comments by Kellyanne Conway in recent media engagements as masterful performances of George Orwell’s “doublethink” and “Newspeak.”

In these dark times, I take solace in the next generation. Thankfully, its members are not deprived of all knowledge. I hope the president will be happy to be proved wrong on that count. I invite the president to my breakfast table to enjoy pancakes with students who do have some knowledge and give us reason to hope.
