2. Principle Investigator, “History Teachers as Agents of Nation Building,” supported by the Spencer Foundation.
This multidisciplinary project aims to investigate what role do teaches play in transforming specific connotations of national identity represented in state-controlled history textbooks to high school children and how teachers’ meaning and concepts of national identity mediate this process. More specifically, the project asks how rapidly changing historic narratives in history textbooks are represented by history teachers who support and oppose the change and how they impact students’ trust in and attitudes toward history textbooks.
