Abstract
Churches in the U.S. are divided over how best to respond to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Toward a means of critical reflexivity amenable to religious communities, this thesis will develop and test an Insight approach to inquire into the recent decision-making of The Episcopal Church regarding the conflict. Specifically, this Insight case study will attempt the critical correlation of the Church’s bureaucratic and other processes at General Convention 2012 with the subjectivity of those involved in the decision to opt for “constructive investment” rather than divestment from businesses in the conflict area. The study will ask not only what the Church was doing, but how its decisions can be assessed.
