Abstract

My dissertation seeks to explore the perceived irreconcilability of prolonged intergroup conflicts and the extent to which this perception in malleable. Focusing on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, my research explores the socio-psychological mechanisms by which hope for resolution amongst members of groups mired in intractable conflicts can be increased. The goals of my dissertation are to deepen our understanding of the role of hope for resolution in the contexts of intractable conflict and to devise and empirically test messaging strategies that might instill hope for resolution in-group members engulfed in intractable conflicts.
