While the occurrence of human rights violations seems tragically clear, the careful reflection on such rights raises many challenging questions. If such rights ‘exist,’ are they universal? If so, upon what understanding of humanity are such rights grounded?
In the tradition of the European salon, where critical issues of the day were explored and possibly advanced through casual conversation, we launch the first SCAR salon. The topic is philosophy, conflict and conflict resolution. Lying just below the surface of our work in CAR, the intersection of philosophy, conflict and conflict resolution is necessary when we reflect upon what, why, and how to do what we do. And philosophical reflection becomes essential for addressing many of our quandaries, uncertainties, and bewildering questions. We invite you to join Marc Gopin and Daniel Rothbart who we facilitate topical issues on this subject. Please join the conversation.
