The School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution's (S-CAR) Student Association will be holding elections for the 2016-2017 Council of Representatives. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved with planning events and creating programs to help foster a strong sense of community at S-CAR. Each candidate must fill out a candidacy form and obtain 10 signatures of support. Copies of the form can be found at the S-CAR front desk or you can email Jasmine at [email protected] for an electronic copy. If you are interested in running for a position, please attend next week's informational meeting which will be held on Wednesday, November 2, at 7:15 P.M. at the John Burton Library on the 5th Floor of the Metropolitan building located at the Arlington campus. Scans of completed candidacy forms or the form itself must be either turned into the S-CAR front desk in the Metropolitan building or submitted via email to Jasmine at [email protected] by 11:59 P.M. on 9 November. The available positions and their subsequent descriptions can be found below.

Co/Chair

  • Oversees all aspects of the association
  • Meets and talks regularly with the council of representatives to ensure their needs are met and association objectives are being accomplished
  • Principal liaison to S-CAR and meets with the Faculty Advisor at least once a semester
  • Seeks meetings with the Dean of S-CAR and GMU leadership as needed
  • Holds a strategic visioning session at least once a year within four weeks of the beginning of the fall semester that is open to all students eligible for full membership in the Student Association


PhD Representative

  • Liaison and primary advocate of the doctoral academic program of the S-CAR
  • Assists the Chair in organization matters of the association to include coordination for meetings
  • Responsible for the recommendation, coordination, staffing and evaluation of projects/events for the school year
  • Assume duty of Chair in the event(s)he is absent or can no longer perform duties
  • Is responsible for providing records, reflections, and other guidance of their year in office to the body and to their successor
  • Is eligible to stand in for the Ph.D. Liaison to the Faculty Board if the Ph.D liaison to the faculty board is unable to attend a meeting of the Faculty Board
  • Other duties as assigned by Chair


MSc Representative

  • Liaison and primary advocate of the Master of Science, Graduate Certificate, and Joint Bachelor/Masters academic programs and S-CAR Fellows
  • Assists the Chair in organization matters of the association to include coordination for meetings
  • Responsible for the recommendation, coordination, staffing and evaluation of projects/events for the school year
  • Assume duty of Chair in the event(s)he is absent or can no longer perform duties
  • Is responsible for providing records, reflections, and other guidance of their year in office to the body and to their successor.
  • Is eligible to stand in for the Msc Liaison to the Faculty Board if the MSc liaison to the faculty board is unable to attend a meeting of the Faculty Board.
  • Other duties as assigned by Chair


Treasurer

  • Reporting to the association:
  1. on the organization's financial state of affairs
  2. the state of pending funding requests
  • Submitting association approved requests for funding to GMU
  • Advising the association on GMU's policies and regulations regarding the club's financial activities.
