A cornerstone of conflict resolution education is the use of experiential learning for instilling best practices, developing discipline-specific awareness, and honing important skill sets necessary for successful careers. At the graduate level in particular, there has often been unevenness in the approaches used to provide students with opportunities for internships, practicums, and even study abroad to gain experience. When considering international applications of conflict resolution and its related areas, graduate programs have been criticized for not supporting strategies that present graduates as competitive candidates for employment.

The Atlantic Hope program… seeks to provide both undergraduate and graduate students with an intense multi-day simulation-based experience to help prepare them for employment upon completion of their studies. Atlantic Hope teaches students how to work in complex environments where conflict and war are present and other social, political, economic, and environmental stresses are also in play.
