Mary Mulvihill
Mary Mulvihill is the Executive Director of Grace Institute. Grace Institute is a non-profit organization in New York City that prepares economically disadvantaged women for the workplace. Founded in 1897 by the twice-elected Mayor of New York, W.R. Grace and his brother Michael, Grace Institute has helped more than 100,000 women fulfill their potential and improve the quality of their lives.
Prior to joining Grace Institute, Mary was Acting Dean of Metropolitan College at St. John's University and while there founded the Institute for Catholic School Principals.
Mary is currently a director of the board of the Center for Work-Life Policy; a member of the Women's Foreign Policy Group; a Commissioner of the Women's Commission for Refugee Women and Children; a former trustee of the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, a museum dedicated to the preservation of the urban immigrant experience. For her work at the museum she received the Urban Pioneer Award. She is also a former member of the Board of Directors of the Fordham University Neighborhood Housing Program. Over the years, Mary has been very active in her community and has served on numerous committees in Bronxville.
Mary's educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from St. Joseph's College and a Masters in Business Administration and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from Fordham University. The topic of her doctoral dissertation was gender balancing the curriculum in undergraduate business schools to improve self-efficacy and attitudes towards women in order to better prepare women for the workplace.
Mary believes that educational issues are among the most serious challenges of our society, since adequate education in our culture is the key to economic and social advancement. She is also interested in women's issues; principally as such affect families and women's roles in the workplace. Finally, she believes that entrepreneurial activity is an important factor in economic prosperity, and she favors support for entrepreneurs in education and business.
Mary is married to Roger Mulvihill; they have three children.
