Biography

Mariam M. Kurtz is co-editor of the 2-volume Women, War and Violence: Typography, Resistance and Hope published by Praeger (2015) and an adjunct faculty member in Justice and Peace Studies and teaching in African Studies at Georgetown University. She has worked as a journalist in newspapers, radio, and television in Tanzania and at the Voice of America. She holds a Diploma from the Tanzania School of Journalism, University of Dar-es-Salaam; has a bachelor's degree in communication from St. Edwards University; and is a PhD candidate at the School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University, exploring the impact of globalization and land acquisition for mining on social relations and conflict in Africa. Kurtz has published many headline and feature stories that bear directly and indirectly on the topics of war, violence, and women as well as academic chapters on nationalism as well as religion and conflict.
