Biography

Dr. Roba D. Sharamo has over 16 years of experience in international development, diplomacy and conflict analysis and resolution where he worked in senior management positions with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kenya, Government of Kenya, non-governmental organizations and a leading think-tank, Institute for Security Studies in Addis Ababa and Nairobi, among other international institutions. Most recently, he worked for UNDP as the Team Leader for Peace Building and Conflict Prevention Unit. He received his Doctorate in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University, United States of America (USA) in 2012. His doctoral dissertation is entitled, “Predatory Politics and Struggles of Peacemaking in Somalia,” at George Mason University, Arlington, Virginia, US.

Dr. Roba has a Masters degree in Sustainable International Development from Brandeis University, Boston, USA, 2002 and a Bachelor of Science from Kenyatta University, Nairobi, Kenya, 1998. He has lectured and made presentations at numerous regional and international conferences and published key monographs and scholarly articles on peace and security in Africa. He also co-edited two monographs: with Berouk Mesfin entitled Regional Security in Post-Cold War Horn of Africa (April 2011); and The State of Human Security in Africa (co-edited with C. Ayangafac) in April 2012, respectively. He is committed to the institutionalization of the inter-related agendas of peace, cohesion and integration in Kenya. His areas of specialization include conflict analysis and resolution, political economy, peacebuilding, cohesion, community security, mediation and negotiation. Dr.
