PhD, Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University
M.A, Conflict Transformation & Peacebuilding, Eastern Mennonite University
Michael Shank, Senior Policy Advisor for Congressman Mike Honda and PhD Candidate at the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, criticizes the counterinsurgency strategy in Afghanistan for emphasizing the military component over economic and political development. According to Shank, "the issue is not where the problem is, it is how we are dealing with the problem" signaling that the military-heavy approach has already destabilized Pakistan with billions of dollars unaccounted for with no results.
