Objectives
The purpose of the West Virginia Service Learning Intensive (SLI) is to afford students opportunities to engage in practices of conflict analysis and resolution in a community setting and learn from community leaders who are steeped in the dynamics of local conflicts.
Service Objectives in West Virginia Communities:
- Collaborate with local partners to understand needs, interests and values in the community context
- Develop processes and approaches to productively resolve conflicts in the Charleston context
- Engage community members in research, training, and practice of conflict resolution
Student Development Objectives:
- Increase ability to analyze and understand community conflict dynamics
- Expand capacity to link analysis and understanding to resolution approaches
- Develop acknowledgement of and appreciation for local conflict resolution techniques
- Create opportunities to work with and learn from local organizations
