Biography

Dr. James Adams, a Viet Nam veteran and professional field officer, has served many years in a variety of peace and stability operation roles (Humanitarian Affairs Officer, Sr. Operations Officer, Civil Affairs Officer, Governance Officer) with the UN, IOM, USAID, and NGOs in Africa, Kosovo, and Afghanistan.

He has a B.A. in International Relations (San Francisco State U.), and an MA and PhD. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University’s School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution.  His dissertation, “Assessing Interventions Stalled in Negative Peace: A Model for Peace & Stability Operations” (as applied to Bosnia and Herzegovina), reflects his development of a unique composite framework and model for assessing structural and relational elements and negative and positive peace dynamics in peace and stability operations.  He is now working to incorporate this analysis and briefing tool into policy and operational efforts.

Dr. Adams has been known to race cars, ride Harleys, and play acoustic guitar and flugelhorn.
