Objectives:
The purpose of the Colombia Service Learning Intensive is to engage students in learning and self-development. In order to achieve these objectives, students will work with local community partners.
Services Objectives in Colombian Communities:
- Engage community members in research, training, and practice of conflict resolution.
- Develop processes and approaches to productively resolve conflicts in the Colombian context.
- Collaborate with local partners to understand needs, interests and values in the community context.
Student Development Objectives:
- Advance student understanding of the deep-rooted nature of the Colombian conflict and its effects on community life at the local level while working directly with Colombian grassroots organizations.
- Allow participants to systematically explore the nature, origin, and types of social conflicts in Colombia.
- Create opportunities for students to learn from local partners to further their understanding of conflict resolution techniques and traditions in non-U.S. setting.
