Objectives
The purpose of the service learning field experience in Kenya is to engage students in learning, professional practice, skill building, and self-development. In order to achieve these objectives, students will work with local community partners.
Student Development Objectives:
- Gain experience working with local partners and communities while understanding their needs.
- Develop a greater understanding of how social change actually happens in the field.
- Advance their understanding of conflicts that affect the community in Nairobi.
- Develop conflict resolution approaches and techniques.
- Learn professional skills essential for long-term success.
- Build new, globally connected networks in their areas of interest.
- Increase confidence in their own abilities and role as agents of change.
Service Objectives in Nairobi Communities:
- Engage community members in research, training, and practice of conflict resolution.
- Develop processes and approaches to productively resolve conflicts in the Kenyan context.
- Collaborate with local partners to understand needs, interests, and values in the community context.
