Significant events: Organisation originated among IDP communities from Rio Sucio & Carmen del Darien region who, at the end of 1996, were forced to flee their homes as a result of army and paramilitary attacks, part of “Operation Genesis”. After time spent in refugee camps in Pavarando, and encouraged by church organisations, some of the 5000 refugees determined to return to their home area and establish peace communities there.
Further comments: On returning to their home territory, communities resumed their efforts to register communal title to their lands – a process [deliberately ?] interrupted by Operation Genesis
