Significant events: In July-August 2000 municipio was one of 2 in region [other El Santuario] where paramilitaries constructed a death list of community leaders, campesinos, tradesmen etc based on a diary found on a dead FARC guerrilla naming those with “guerrilla links”. Over 50 people killed and communities abandoned as people fled to municipal capital.
Further comments: Municipio one of four in E.Antioquia members of REDEPAZ’s “100 Municipios”, also a member of the Asamblea del Oriente Antioqueno.
